North End Business, Where.com, Gets Bought by eBay for $135 million

where-300x109It is not often that a North End business makes the pages of the Wall Street Journal, but that is what happened today for Where.com when the news emerged that eBay was acquiring the company for $135 million.

Located on the third floor of 77 N. Washington St., Where builds location-based mobile apps for iPhones, Android phones and Blackberries with about 4 million active users. The listings show local restaurants, bars, merchants and events, offering location-based advertising. The unit will become part of the PayPal unit of eBay, the ecommerce auction giant. Where currently has 120 employees.

According to Boston.com:

Where CEO Walt Doyle says he’ll remain in Boston, rather than moving to PayPal’s San Jose headquarters: “This is all about Boston. I lived out west for eight years. I did my Valley time.”
