North End Enjoys Weekly Movie Nights at the Gassy

It was a hot and muggy day, but the warm weather did not dampen anyone’s spirits for a favorite community event, North End Movie Night, last Wednesday afternoon.

Family fun is often seen at the Gassy during the summer months.

Boston Community Collaborative hosts this weekly event on the Defilippo Playground / The Gassy. Attendees get to enjoy pizza before the movie starts and children run around playing before the festivities.

The movie featured last Wednesday evening was Marmaduke. Marmaduke is a charming PG rated film about a loveable dog helping his family adjust to their lives in a new community. All the movies shown during North End Movie Night are family-friendly.

Susan Parker, who lives in the Back Bay, brought her kids to the movie for a fun family night out. It was her first time attending.

“I heard about it from a friend and thought it would be something fun to do. Plus, free is always good,” she joked.

Parker said she likes to visit different parts of the city with her two children as a way to teach them about the city.

“The North End is beautiful so it is always fun to come this way,” she said.

She said the North End is a vibrant community with a lot of events happening throughout the summer.

“There is always something to do here,” she said. “You can easily find something to do with the family. Even if it’s just to bring them to a really good restaurant or a park. You have a lot of different opportunities here. Plus, it’s an active community.”

The next movie night is on August 22 with the showing of Shrek, and the final movie night is on the 29th when The Greatest Showman is playing. The rain location is the Nazzaro Center gymnasium. These weekly movies are free for all.
