Short-Term Rentals (AirBnb) Update from Alliance of Downtown Civic Organizations [Video]

Resident associations across the city are discussing how to balance and monitor short-term rentals, such as AirBnb, within their neighborhoods.

Arturo Gossage from the Alliance of Downtown Civic Organizations (ADCO) spoke to the North End / Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) at their July meeting regarding the current state of short-term rentals in downtown.

Legislation is pending at the State House, introduced by the North End’s Rep. Michlewitz, to tax and regulate short-term rental use (09:40 in video). [See State Rep. Michlewitz Proposes New Regulations on Short-Term Rentals (AirBnb)]

Not included in the legislative effort is the impact of a reduced housing stock, that is driving up real estate prices. If state legislation passes, however, the City of Boston is expected to introduce its own regulatory framework that may address housing availability.
