North End Against Drugs (NEAD) held their Annual Raymond and Michelina Costa Scholarship Fund drawing on Friday, May 19th at the Nazzaro Center, prior to the Center’s dance event.
“Thanks to the generosity of many donors we were able to give out eleven $500 scholarships to students going to tuition-based schools from grammar school to college,” stated Olivia Scimeca, NEAD board member whose parents the scholarship fund is named after. “We also gave out $100 gift cards to Staples for school supplies to eighteen students attending public schools,” noted NEAD President John Romano. “Every public school student who applied was a winner.” This is the most money NEAD has given out in one school year.

Thanks goes out to NEAD board members who helped make the event a great success: Olivia Scimeca, George Hadaya, Karen D’Amico, Officer Teddy Boyle, Mike Giannasoli, and Kathy Carangelo D’Amore. A very special thank you to Pizzeria Regina for donating the pizza for the event! Also, thank you to the Nazzaro Center for allowing NEAD to piggyback on their annual dance event.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank North End Against Drugs, Donato Frattaroli and the Taste of the North End for donating funds for scholarships, which my daughter, Ashley DiForte, was one of the fortunate ones to have won. She is will be a junior at Pope John XXIII High School in Everett. Once again, thank you!
