Old North Church – Behind the Scenes

North End Historical Society members received a free “Behind the Scenes” tour at the Old North Church on October 23, 2010. The tour went up to the “Bell Ringing Chamber,” where the teen-aged Paul Revere worked as a bell ringer.

The tour also went down into the “Crypt” where 37 tombs were constructed under the church between 1732 and 1860. Attendees learned about the construction of the tombs, viewed artifacts found in the crypt, and heard the story of the people who are buried there, including the church’s first rector, Dr. Timothy Cutler, and Samuel Nicholson, the first captain of the U.S.S. Constitution.
