The 11th annual CityFeast event in Boston’s North End, to benefit Joslin Diabetes Center’s High Hopes Fund, will feature new dining options; prix fixe menus. Each of which will feature at least one “diabetes-friendly” dish, as Joslin Diabetes Center is spearheading an effort for restaurants to add a “DF” symbol for “diabetes-friendly” next to the appropriate dishes on menus to make dining out choices easier for those living with diabetes.

Similar to how many menus prepare gluten-free dishes, Joslin is beginning a push to make diabetes-friendly common place.  1% of US population has celiac disease while nearly 10% are living with diabetes, and numbers likely much higher if you factor those undiagnosed. Diabetes-friendly dishes are focused on including lean protein or fish, non-starchy vegetables and are generally low in carbohydrates and cholesterol.

Tickets are priced at $150 each, of which $100 is tax deductible, each includes a five-course dinner with wine pairings at one of the participating restaurants . Due to high demand, reservations are limited, and will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Proceeds will benefit Joslin Diabetes Center’s High Hopes Fund, which supports the Center’s greatest needs in research, education and clinical care.
