Matt. Thank you for posting the video. I ‘commission’ only their students to tune my piano! From what I observed at their Open House, the public is very interested in the school and the programs (although expensive) and the new school is beautiful……..the video depicts the intensity of the study and work carried on there. …..thoroughly enjoyed this video.
Great video about a wonderful North End institution.
The NBSIS was founded by Pauline Agassiz Shaw to serve the newly arriving immigrants to the North End and it’s interesting seeing how its mission has evolved over the years.
The opening photo in this video shows a sign on the outside of the original Industrial School building for the Social Services Credit Union, a small bank where many North Enders deposited their money and could get loans at a reasonable rate of interest. This was of tremendous benefit to the poor people of the North End. I remember going there with my father when he deposited money in a “Christmas Club.”
The mission may have changed but the spirit of Pauline Shaw seems intact.
