Accomplished Piano Technician Emily Townsend Joins the Faculty at North Bennet Street School

Beginning in September 2013, students in the Piano Technology  program at North Bennet Street School (NBSS) will benefit from the expert skills of a new faculty member, Emily Townsend.  

After completing the piano technology program at North Bennet Street School (NBSS) in 2008, Emily moved to Texas and established a successful piano tuning and rebuilding business. In addition, she served as head technician at Trinity University in San Antonio and a concert technician at Aspen Music Festival and Tanglewood.

Emily replaces Christine Lovgren who retired from NBSS in May 2014 after more than 30 years as an instructor.

North Bennet Street School offers two nine-month courses — Basic Piano Technology and Advanced Piano Technology. Both provide intensive, hands-on training with a comprehensive curriculum, stimulating environment, and master faculty. Highly regarded throughout the piano industry, NBSS equips graduates with the skills needed to launch successful businesses and pursue deeply satisfying careers.

North Bennet Street School, an ACCSC accredited (Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges) post-secondary institution in Boston’s North End, has been training individuals in the trades since 1885. The School is internationally renowned for excellence in teaching traditional hand skills. Full-time, career-oriented programs include bookbinding, carpentry, cabinet and furniture making, jewelry making and repair, locksmithing, piano technology, preservation carpentry and violin making and repair.
