The Friends of Christopher Columbus Park have announced their slate of nominees to lead the popular non-profit group. At their May 12, 2015 meeting (6:30pm, Mariner’s House), the annual election of FOCCP officers will take place.
Nominees for this election are:
- President: Joanne Hayes-Rines
- Vice President: Ann Babbitt
- Treasurer: Audrey Tortolani
- Clerk: Patricia Thiboutot
- Directors-at-large: Susanne Lavoie Lagace
What’s up with the lights on the trellis?
FOCCP has provided an update as they install new, state-of-the-art LED lights on the trellis. Installation of the white lights is the first step. These lights will serve as year-round security lighting, replacing the existing (and very old) security lights that are original to the trellises. New LED lights will also be installed on the cross beams of the trellis to provide the beautiful blue winter lighting. After all the lights are installed, controllers will be added so the lights can be dimmed to the appropriate level. The non-profit, all-volunteer FOCCP group is able to install these new lights with funds raised through memberships, corporate donations and fundraising events.
In other FOCCP news, their annual membership drive is in full swing. “Whether it be as a paid member, a horticulture volunteer, a business supporter or a committee member, every single person counts; every single effort matters,” says the group in their latest newsletter. Save the date! Mayor Walsh’s coffee hour at Christopher Columbus Park on June 16, 9:30 am. The Neighborhood Coffee Hours give residents a unique opportunity to speak directly with Mayor Walsh. Through these discussions and a suggestion box at each site, Mayor Walsh looks forward to hearing how the City of Boston can improve upon local parks, public areas, and services. All participants will enjoy coffee and breakfast treats provided by Dunkin’ Donuts, fresh fruit from Whole Foods and a flowering plant grown in the City’s greenhouses.
