Over 40 restaurants, pastry shops and vendors brought their world famous cuisine and beverages to the 22nd Taste of the North End held on Friday, May 1, 2015. Filling the Steriti Skating Rink to capacity, this was the fundraiser’s biggest year ever. Special honors were awarded to Angela Menino (TONE Supporter), Filippo Frattaroli (Restauranteur of the Year)and Joseph Giangreggorio (Community Activist).Jenny Johnson of NESN’s Dining Playbook was this year’s Master of Ceremonies with co-chairs Donato Frattaroli of Lucia Ristorante and James Luisi, CEO of North End Waterfront Health Center. Philip Frattaroli of Ducali Pizzeria was Executive Director with Event Coordinator Marianne Aiello and committee members, Donato Frattaroli, Daniel Leonard & Mary Wright. Proceeds are still being counted, but donations are expected to exceed $100,000 supporting non-profit organizations in the North End including North End Waterfront Health (NEW Health), Eliot K-8 Innovation School, St. John School, North End Athletic Association (NEAA), North End Against Drugs (NEAD), North End Music and Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC), ABCD Center (North End / West End) and Boston Youth Wrestling. The annual Buona Sera or “Good Evening” fundraiser benefits the many low-income residents, mostly elderly, served by the NE/WE NSC – the “hidden poor” of Boston’s North End and West End neighborhoods.
