It has only been a few years that Faneuil Hall Marketplace has been bringing in a huge Christmas tree as part of its Blink! lighting display. The new tradition appears to be paying off with its largest crowd ever on Saturday night for the city’s official tree lighting. The event was televised with a ceremony honoring outgoing Mayor Tom Menino who flipped the switch. Also on hand were Red Sox player Will Middlebrooks (with the World Series trophy, of course), Keith Lockhart and the Tanglewood Festival Chorus along with singer Paula Cole. The 80 foot high tree itself came from a Long Island, NY donation by a couple that gave it up because it was endangering their house after Hurricane Sandy. Blink! with the music from Hallelujah Chorus and animated lighting along Faneuil Hall Marketplace can be viewed nightly through January 6th.

Too bad the speakers did not work until the tree was lit up. We were standing down by Victoria’s Secret and could not hear the Mayor or any of the music. Still enjoyed it.
