Buzz is increasing about the opening of Joe Bono’s new pizza place at 111 Salem Street called Benevento’s. The location is in the space next to Bono’s existing Al Dente that used to be Trani Ice Cream.
The opening is being followed by Boston Restaurant Talk and a piece by Urban Dinner that comments, “It’s in the heart of the North End, which means it’s your new reason to brave the lack of parking, the out-of-town tourists from faraway places (Europe, Asia, Vermont) and the turf-protecting citizenry of Salem Street.”
This is the address that was the subject of last year’s controversial patio debate regarding Al Dente and the new restaurant. The patio proposal was withdrawn and the license transfer was supported by the neighborhood groups. At the time, the proposed name was Spazzo’s which has been changed to Benevento’s. The menu is geared toward pizza and affordable Italian fare.
