A man was pronounced dead after falling down an elevator shaft on Peddock’s Island. The North End’s Marine Unit 1 and crews from Engine 8 Ladder 1 of the Boston Fire Department responded on Friday night around 9 pm to a rescue call on the island near Hull. According to authorities, the man was extracted but pronounced dead by medical control at Boston Medical Center.
Update: The man was identified as 35-year-old William E. Bryan, III and he had spent the day with a group including a Department of Conservation and Recreation employee. The group had been consuming alcohol. More on Boston.com.

Boston Fire responded to a gas alarm earlier today at Commercial Wharf West, the building with the Golden Goose. The block was evacuated for a short time.
