The kids did extremely well this year by trick-or-treating in the North End on Halloween with nearly all businesses and many residences participating in the neighborhood tradition. After a fun afternoon, families gathered on the Prado for the annual pizza party, organized by the North End Music and Performing Arts Center. NEMPAC thanks Pizzeria Regina for 42 pizzas served at the event and support from State Senator Anthony Petruccelli and State Representative Aaron Michlewitz.
Joining in the fun this year were the dogs! RUFF, Responsible Urbanites for Fido, organized dog owners for a costume contest judged by the kids and won by “Billy Idol.” There was plenty of food for humans and dogs.

Atlantic Avenue had its share of animal sightings today. First, the famous Downtown turkey was seen around Lewis Wharf, captured by roving photographer and local business owner, Bruce McCue. Later in the day, Bruce also saw something more seasonally appropriate, the Easter Bunny.

This is such a nice event for the nieghborhood but I do miss the days of the games and music that encouraged the neighborhood to linger. Next year there needs to be some more planning – there wasn’t nearly enough pizza for everyone who showed up and it was so dark that it was dangerous for all the children. We only stayed about 15 minutes but would have liked to have caught up with many friends in a fun, neighborhood friendly area.
