The Greenway Conservancy hosted the lighting of the Great Elm Tree in the northern part of the North End Parks on Thursday night. The elm is the largest tree on the entire Greenway and the lighting was part of the “Bright Lights for Winter Nights” campaign throughout the parks. More on the elm tree can be found on the Conservancy’s blog.
The North End Music and Performing Arts Center provided music and bell ringers. City Councilors Sal LaMattina and Felix Arroyo spoke about the Greenway at the ceremony. About 2-3 dozen residents braved the cold to witness the lighting. Local restaurants, Monica’s, Nick’s Famous Deli and Antico Forno donated the food and beverages. The hour-long event was held on Thursday, February 11, 2010 on the park across from Pace’s/Maria’s.
