Jupiter and Saturn aligned in a planetary conjunction on December 21, creating a very bright star that some have been referring to as the “Christmas Star.”
Here Peter Galipault from Commercial Wharf captures the conjunction behind the Custom House Tower. According to NASA, it’s been nearly 400 years since the planets passed this close to each other in the sky, and nearly 800 years since the alignment of Saturn and Jupiter occurred at night, allowing nearly everyone around the world to witness this “great conjunction.”
