Boston Community Collaborative (BCC) is so proud of its drama and dance students who recently performed “A Day at the Ballet” at the St. John School stage.
The play was the session/year end performance and included approximately 60 students ages 3 –11. Our students rehearsed during their weekly dance and drama classes at the St. John School afterschool program, and at the BPS Eliot School.
“A Day at the Ballet” is an original play that was devised and written by our students. The students were given the frameworks of the stories of several famous ballets including “The Fire Bird”, “La Sylphide”, “Swan Lake”, “The Nutcracker”, and “Coppelia”. The students helped make up the dances, and wrote their own lines in their own interpretations of these exciting ballets. We are very happy with how much fun our students had creating their own work.
Under the guidance of BCC’s lead, drama and dance instructor Ingrid Oslund, drama teacher Sara Kerr, and dance instructor Victoria Isotti rehearsed weekly for the past ten weeks with our drama and dance students to pull together a lovely show.
We were very fortunate to borrow costumes from the Brimmer and May School’s theater program where our teachers are involved.
A festive reception followed the show and included donated Regina Pizza, and a donated Mike’s Pastry sheet cake.
BCC is delighted to create opportunities that mix kids from different contexts in the neighborhood. Our SJS students may know our Eliot School students through the Nazzaro Center, from sports, from their respective neighborhoods, from the playground, or from their daycare long ago – it is a thrill to bring them all together in collaboration.
BCC was incorporated in 2013 and strives to create community by connecting people and resources.
