Boston Harbor Now’s “Waterfront Wednesdays” Episode 9: Park Partnership

Boston Harbor Now’s Director of Policy Jill Valdes Horwood and Director of Planning Alice Brown host a bi-weekly video blog covering topics related to the harbor. Watch their most recent episode about the many partners that care for and maintain the Boston Harbor Islands below.

In this four and a half minute vlog, Brown and Horwood discuss the parks partnership that manages and protects 34 islands in the Boston Harbor Islands State and National Park. There are federal partners (National Parks Service and U.S. Coast Guard), state partners (Department of Conservation & Recreation), and city partners (City of Boston and the Boston Redevelopment Authority).

When the Boston Harbor Island Alliance merged with the Boston Harbor Association in 2016 a non-profit partner was formed – Boston Harbor Now. Some examples of work done by the parks partnership is the water transportation strategy and the Peddocks Island redevelopment plan.

The two go on to explain the specific strengths and resources of several partners in the partnership. They also discuss the Boston Harbor Islands Advisory Committee.
