A Weekend in Boston: Events Throughout the City February 22 – 24

There are only 27 more days until spring! Do you think spring is going to actually start in March? We’ll just have to wait and see. This weekend, the 91st Academy Awards will air at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Do you have predictions for best picture? Bohemian Rhapsody, the Freddie Mercury biopic, has been hotly debated as to whether it is actually any good or not. Still, there is a possibility it will win the best picture of the year. Personally, I wasn’t thrilled with the factual inaccuracies found throughout the movie, but other than that, it was fine. Aside from the Oscars, let’s see what is going on this weekend:

Friday, February 22

Flogging Molly at The House of Blues Boston

Flogging Molly will be performing at the House of Blues Boston on Friday. Opening for the Irish-American Celtic-Punk band will be Lucero. Flogging Molly often tours with Boston natives Dropkick Murphys. Catch the band this Friday in Boston.

2019 Oscar-Nominated Short Films at The ICA

This Friday and Sunday, the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) will host a showing of the 2019 Oscar nominated, animated short films. The ICA will also be showing other types of short films now through March 10. For more information and a complete schedule on the films, head to the ICA’s website.

Anderson .Paak And The Free Nationals

Anderson .Paak is one of the best up and coming jazz/hip hop artists right now. .Paak just released his new album, Oxnard, last year. He’ll be performing with his band at The Orpheum Theatre this Saturday. If you miss him then, you can catch him at Boston Calling this year!

School of Rock The Musical

The movie, School of Rock, came out 16 years ago in 2003. It’s hard to believe that movie is that old. Well, now there is a musical version of the story. An aging rock star becomes a substitute teacher who inspires students to learn music to form a class band. It’s a modern classic!

Puppy Meet and Greet

Looking to adopt a dog this weekend? The Great Dog Rescue New England shelter is hosting a meet and greet with adoptable dogs at First Priority Credit Union in East Boston. Meet adorable pups and learn about other ways you can help the shelter.

Sunday, February 24

The Beatles Tribute – RAIN

Many of us never got the chance to see The Beatles perform live in our lifetimes. The next best thing – other than seeing Paul McCartney at Fenway Park – is seeing a tribute band. RAIN, celebrating 50 years of The Beatles’ album Abbey Road, will be performing at the Wang Theatre on Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
