  1. 97 Salem Street should not be 5 stories above the existing structure. That would make it well about the 55’ height restriction which the neighborhood fought so hard for. Approval would set precedent for other buildings to go beyond the limit. Nearby 77 Salem Street was constructed before the height ordinance and was one reason for the 55 ‘ height implementation. Additionally, 77 Salem Street is architecturally out of character with the rest of the area and a reason why some wanted a historic district designation in addition to the height restriction. The North End-Waterfront Neighborhood Council was formed in the midst of development battles in the mid-1980s and hopefully will live up to its founding principles and not support any structure that violates the height restriction and architectural nature of the North End.
