Historic Neighborhood Photo: Children at Stillman Street Playground

This photo shows a group of children running around in a playground on Stillman Street in the North End. In the photo, it appears the majority of this playground was simply wide open cement, however, if you take a look at the second photo shown below, you’ll notice there were several sets of swings in the back corner – making this a popular destination for children in the neighborhood.

The park today (known as as Cutillo Park) is still heavily utilized! It now includes several shaded areas, additional playsets and basketball hoops.

  1. The Stillman playground used to be an MDC skating rink. I learned how to ice skate there when I was 5 or 6 years old. I’m talking 1965-66.

  2. The Manager there was a guy named Frank. he lived on Cooper st. later on down the road, I worked for him at the MDC rink on Commercial st.
