On This Day: “Honey Fitz” Fitzgerald Elected to Congress. On November 6, 1895 an Irishman from the North End was elected to the U.S. Congress. Ten years later, John Francis Fitzgerald won the Boston mayoral election, rattling the Yankee establishment with his work on behalf of the poor, immigrants, and workers. After withdrawing from the 1914 mayoral campaign, he turned his attention to grooming his grandsons for their political careers. Three of them served in the U.S. Senate. Massachusetts ranked 4th most bicycle-friendly state

Massachusetts made the rankings at #4 for most bicycle-friendly states in a new report by bicycle advocacy group, the League of American Bicyclists. In the state’s report card, it noted the city’s plan to expand bike lines in the North End, more from MassLive.
