Neighborhood Photo: Foster Street Mystery Numbers

What are these randomly placed numbered boxes on the side of this Foster Street building? Nearby resident Pat shares this photo and hypothesizes they might be electronic locks for AirBnb units? Perhaps units 4, 6, 7, 8 are not yet ready to “share” their beds but Nos. 1, 2, 3, 5 and 9 apparently are?

Or, maybe it’s just a new type of public art.

  1. They look like the Airbnb lock boxes that are all over the North End. Most places have them near the door and placed low but …

  2. Air BnB keys. These owners have no respect. i have found them on My property. I watched as someone opened the lock to get the key for an apartment in a building 3 doors down. I cut the lock off my property. so they put it on the leg of a mailbox.
