NEMPAC wrapped up another successful summer this week after hosting six summer workshops! In addition to the popular Music Theatre Workshops and the Meet the Instruments Workshop NEMPAC added two new programs, Youth Improv and Broadway Bootcamp Workshops.
The Youth Improv Workshop, in collaboration with the Improv Asylum, gave students the opportunity to fine-tune their comedic acting while introducing the quick-thinking techniques improvising actors regularly use. All the participating students showcased their new techniques in a performance involving everything from stage combat to impersonations.
Broadway Bootcamp was the first of its’ kind for NEMPAC. Advanced music theatre students were challenged with the task of learning scenes from some of today’s most poplar and influential shows including Hamilton, Matilda, Legally Blonde, Newsies, and The Addams Family. The talented group of students brought the house down in a final performance for the community.
During their six weeks of summer workshops, NEMPAC also introduced a new partnership with the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra. In collaboration with the BPO, NEMPAC provided hour-long drum workshops each week for students enrolled in summer programming. Each workshop engaged the targeted age groups with drumming, listening, and rhythm activities lead by a BPO teaching artist
“We look forward to growing this partnership with the Boston Philharmonic in the upcoming fall in some of our other regular programming” – Manda Shepherd, NEMPAC Educational Programs Director
NEMPAC will be offering several youth programming opportunities this fall beginning September 11th! Check out www.nempacboston.org to more information and registration.
