After weeks of hard work from 20 talented young actors and singers from the North End and Charlestown, the NEMPAC Children’s Music Theater Troupe brought down the house on Thursday, May 18th and Saturday, May 20th with their production of “Seussical Kids” at the Improv Asylum. Directed by Music Theater Program Director Allie Meek, with Music Direction from Alexandra Dietrich and Choreographer Erica Courtemanche, the show featured kids in grades 2-7, giving the younger kids the chance to work with and be inspired by their older peers. The show took viewers on a journey through the tale of Horton the Elephant, and featured other popular Dr. Seuss characters.
“We had such a fantastic group of actors in Seussical KIDS! They worked incredibly hard with the music, choreography and staging, which wasn’t easy! We had so much fun, but their passion and perseverance was incredible and it allowed them to gain even more skills, both on stage and off. They were learning how to multi-task, use their voice, memorize and be confident public speakers. Most importantly, they collaborated as an ensemble and worked wonderfully together. The show was a success, but the process itself was our top priority. The growth of each student was tremendous and I couldn’t be prouder”. — Allie Meek, Director.
The NEMPAC Children’s Music Theater Troupe, founded in 2011, continues to grow in size each year as it tackles more detailed productions. This fall, the Troupe will continue its partnership with the Charlestown Working Theater in a larger scale two-weekend production (TBA at this time).
