1. Happy Christopher Columbus Day! Here are the scheduled events:
11:45am Columbus Day Fall Festival at Christopher Columbus Park. FOCCP is hosting a full day of family fun at the Park! Lineup for a short parade around the Park starts at 11:45am by the statue of Christopher Columbus. The parade begins at noon, followed by entertainment that starts at 12:15pm.
5:30pm Pirandello Evening of Song at Filippo’s Ristorante. Delicious Italian buffet dinner and evening of singing old and current Italian and Italian-American songs. Bring your voices. Music provided by the popular Enzo Amara. $30 per person. [Filippo’s Ristorante, 283 Causeway Street].

The Columbus Day holiday will be observed on Monday, so what is open and what is closed? Profiled by, The Boston Globe, retail, liquor, bars and convenience stores are all at the owners’ discretion. Supermarkets are open while banks, libraries, schools and government offices are all closed.
The craze of juicing is spreading throughout the city to all types of consumers. This trendy health kick doesn’t show any signs of slowing down, and The Juicery located at 66 Cross Street in the North End is ranked 3rd among the most popular juice bars in the entire city. Mayor Martin J. Walsh today announced the recipients of the Edward Ingersoll Browne Trust Fund Grants, which will bring a total of $856,257 to be distributed among eight projects. Included in those grants is $46,350 for the Old North Foundation of Boston.
