The North End / Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) voted to oppose (17-12) the proposed change in legal occupancy at 278-284 North Street by applicant Joseph Bocelli and local developer Colin Yip. Represented by Attorney Daniel Toscano, the proponents presented their plan for 17 residential units and 2 commercial spaces renovation (with sprinklers) in the existing building which is currently zoned as a 4-family residential and 1 commercial space property. The zoning request reflects the existing condition and occupancy of the property.
Residents who spoke out against the project expressed concerns about the small size of the units (390 sq. ft. to 670 sq. ft.), encouraging transients, and the lack of affordable housing units in the project.
Apologies for the very poor sound in the video. The meeting took place in the Nazzaro gymnasium and the acoustics were very bad.
