Social Media Scavenger Hunt on Greenway Starts Tuesday

News from the Greenway Conservancy on the launch of a new scavenger hunt in the park:

Greenway To Hold a Major Scavenger Hunt Throughout the Park on Social Media

Dozens of Food Truck Gift Cards and Free Carousel Rides to be Hidden in Plain-view throughout the Park with Clues to be provided on Social Media

The Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy ( today announced the creation of the “Greenway Scavenger Hunt” contest where social media clues will guide park visitors to dozens of different prizes hidden throughout the 1.5-mile long park! Beginning on Tuesday, August 9th, The Greenway’s major social media accounts – Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram – will feature visual clues to guide participants towards the location of the day’s various prizes.

Each day that the contest is running, The Greenway will post multiple picture clues across their three social media accounts which will orient park visitors towards the location of a prize. Photo clues will lead to over 50 drop sites ranging between The Greenway’s Chinatown Park in the south and North End Park in the north. Successful participants will be rewarded with gift cards generously provided by select food trucks that are part of The Greenway’s Mobile Eats ( food/) program OR packs of tickets to the popular Greenway Carousel ( greenway-carousel/).

The Greenway scavenger hunt (#GreenwayHunt) will highlight different features of the 17-acre Greenway while introducing the public to The Greenway’s unique collection of parks, gardens, public art installations, free events, food options, and more. Those waiting for the next clue to drop will learn more about the Conservancy’s programs and events by following along on Twitter (@HelloGreenway), Facebook (@rosekennedygreenway), and Instagram (@rosekennedygreenway). No single clue will appear on more than one social media platform, encouraging participants to learn more about The Greenway’s role in the Boston community across their three major accounts.

“With The Greenway on pace for our third consecutive year of over 1 million trackable visitors, we wanted a fun way to encourage the public to explore less-visited areas of the park,” said Jesse Brackenbury, Greenway Conservancy Executive Director. “We’re thankful for the terrific small business owners who participate in our Mobile Eats Program and delighted to have them involved.”

The 2016 season of Greenway Mobile Eats features upwards of 30 vendors, which are located along The Greenway based on a rotating weekly schedule. Greenway food trucks also appear at the Greenway Open Market that takes place on Saturdays and the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month. In 2015, over 640,000 hungry patrons were served through the Mobile Eats program on The Greenway!

The Greenway Carousel is one of the most special, all-ages public amenities in Boston and has a backstory that is just as unique. The 36 characters on the Greenway Carousel are all creatures native to the land, air and sea of New England and based on the drawings of Boston Public Schools students. Their dreams – for a Carousel of owls, lobsters, skunks, whales, grasshoppers, turtles, and more – were realized by the work of Newburyport-based sculptor Jeff Briggs. The Greenway Carousel is also considered New England’s most accessible carousel for adults and youth with physical or auditory disabilities.

The contest comes at a time where The Greenway is the middle of a packed summer of over 300 free public programs, with eight fully installed installations of contemporary public art, and one of the country’s only all-organic horticultural programs is on full display.

The social media scavenger hunt will last from Tuesday, August 9 through Friday, August 13.
