The National Parks of Boston marked the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service with a festive opening ceremony on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Christopher Columbus Park. Terry Mirabito was on hand to capture some of the fun, including the cake from Montillio’s. Youth received Junior badges to partner with the Park Service Rangers after reciting an oath to uphold the mission and principles of the National Park Service. Free ferry rides to the Boston Harbor Islands were also enjoyed by hundreds.

Christopher Columbus Statue Vandalized with Red Paint and “Black Lives Matter” Text
The white marble statue of Christopher Columbus was vandalized on Monday night at the namesake park on Boston’s North End waterfront.
