97th Saint Anthony’s Feast Opens in Boston’s North End [Photos]

Opening Ceremonies at the 2016 St. Anthony’s Feast was a spectacle for thousands of devotees of the patron saint. Always on the last weekend in August, the gold-adorned statue of San Antonio emerged to the faithful crowds on under the glory of confetti and streamers. A blessing by Fr. Antonio of St. Leonard Church was followed by a short procession before the statue was placed in its feast chapel for the weekend festivities. During the opening nights of the feast, several bands marched through the streets while friends and families gathered for the annual celebration.

The “Feast of all Feasts” is organized by San Antonio di Padova da Montefalcione, Inc., also known as the St. Anthony’s Club. Check out the new street decorations on N. Margin & Thacher Streets in the photo gallery! (Photos by Matt Conti.)

  1. Very sad that there were supposedly no paid police details avalable to help watch the saint midnight to 6 am. A time when the temp chapal is most vunerable for a robbery. They were requested. File under; ???
