12:00pm History of Howard Johnson’s at North End Branch Library. A History of Howard Johnson’s: How a Massachusetts Soda Fountain Became an American Icon, lecture and slideshow. Howard Johnson created an orange roofed empire of ice cream shops and restaurants that stretched from Maine to Florida and from the east coast to the west coast. 1:00pm The Tailor’s Craft. Clothing historian Henry Cooke takes on the role of an early Boston tailor. Watch as he “takes the measure” of visitors, then sits cross-legged, fashioning waistcoats from luxurious fabrics and “slops” from coarse weaves. [The Paul Revere House, 11 North Square, Boston] View more events at the Paul Revere House.

1:00pm #CargoGate Day at Old North Church In support of Mayor Walsh’s battle for cargo shorts, Old North Church will give visitors wearing cargo shorts free Behind the Scenes Tours. Collect your free ticket at the gift shop, right next door to the church. Tours will be offered 1-1:30, 1:30-2, 2-2:30, 3-3:30, 3:30-4, 4-4:30, and 4:30-5. Details on the event.
