After a tense confrontation that fortunately avoided injury, Boston Police arrested a North End man wielding two large butcher knives on Cooper Street early Sunday morning.
According to BPDNews.com, Steven Locolla, age 26, was yelling and threatening a group of people who had gathered in the street when police arrived around 3:00 a.m.
The suspect was armed with two large butcher knives and wearing a bulletproof vest. When the suspect saw the officers approaching, he turned away from the crowd and began to walk towards them, still armed with both knives. Officers maintained their distance while giving numerous verbal commands to the suspect to drop the weapons. After several tense moments, the suspect placed the butcher knives on the ground and was taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect will appear in Boston Municipal Court on charges of Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon and Wearing a Bulletproof Vest in the Commission of a Felony.
All suspects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
