The Nazzaro Center Knights, a set of 6 traveling basketball teams grouped by age and gender, recently ended their highly successful seasons with two big exclamation points.
On Friday night March 4, the 3rd + 4th Grade Boys team won their tournament by defeating St. Agatha of Milton 29-23! And just two days later, the 18-Under Boys also won their play-off by defeating Gate of Heaven in a rematch of last year’s finals, 49-43 in double overtime!!
The games were remarkably similar in that both Knights teams trailed for most of the game but then rallied late in the 2nd half to pull out the win. In the case of the older team, it took two extra overtimes to finally pull ahead. There were a bunch of “first evers” for the Nazzaro-NEAA Knights basketball program.

This was the first ever championship for the 3rd+4th Grade age group, it also marked the first time that two Knights teams won their respective play-offs in the same season and the 18-under Knights became the first team to win back-to-back titles!
Although the week-end victories by these two teams were rightly celebrated and worthy of praise, so too were the seasons of the other 4 teams who played every game without forfeit, challenged every team down to the final buzzer regardless of the score and represented the Nazzaro Center, the North End community and their families in a fashion everyone associated with the program can take extreme pride in.
