The Good Neighbor Recognition Award was recently presented to Cynthia and Michael Malm, residents of the Prince Building at 63 Atlantic Avenue. The award was presented by NEWRA President Ford Cavallari and Recognition Committee Chair Janet Gilardi on behalf of the North End / Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA).

Since 2008, the Malms have designed, pruned and weeded the landscaped planting beds around the Prince Building. Cynthia Malm shares this upon receiving the award:
Albert Camus wrote ” In the depth of winter I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer.” – for us, that means poring over garden supply and plant catalogs, dreaming and planning for the coming season of gardening. We do it for the sheer joy of gardening, and to cultivate a pleasing sense of place on our block of the North End waterfront. Michael joins me in expressing our appreciation for the recognition of our stewardship of the Prince Building landscaping and street trees. We hope that our efforts give as much joy to our neighbors as we get in doing the work. Finally, in terms of plants and flowers, we tend to favor a red, white and green theme…..viva Italia!

The monthly award is voted by NEWRA’s Executive Committee and given to local businesses, organizations and property owners that contribute to making our neighborhood beautiful and consistently keep the areas around their property clean of trash.
