Events: NEMPAC Summer Concert Series, Multiple Movie Nights, Old North Speaker, The 96th St. Anthony’s Feast!

A North End summer is never complete without some fireworks, and of course the St. Anthony’s Feast! In addition to the “feast of all feasts” coming up this weekend, take a look at some other events to get you though the work week.

Tuesday, August 25

7:00pm NEWRA Zoning, Licensing & Construction (ZLC) Committee Meeting – Mariner’s House
Located at 11 North Square, the ZLC Committee holds monthly meetings and welcomes residents interested in neighborhood issues, visit zlc.newra.org for more information.

Wednesday, August 26

5:00pm Italian Movie Nights at Caffe Paradiso
Each Wednesday evening, two Italian movies will be shown with English subtitles (5:00 and 7:00 pm) at Caffè Paradiso downstairs in the air-conditioned viewing room. The movies will be projected on a huge screen with clear and loud stereo speakers. Additionally, we will provide fresh food and drinks from local North End establishments.

6:00pm “Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day” Movie at North End Branch Library
Guinevere Pettigrew, a middle-aged London governess, finds herself unfairly dismissed from her job. An attempt to gain new employment catapults her into the glamorous world and dizzying social whirl of an American actress and singer, Delysia Lafosse. The event is free, for an adult audience, more information on the movie.

6:30pm Old North Speaker Series: John Tyler – The Looting of Thomas Hutchinson’s House at the Time of the Stamp Act Riots
[Old North Church, Boston] In an illustrated lecture, John Tyler will use an inventory made by Hutchinson to discuss the contents of the house, and even the clothing of its inhabitants, as an illustration of the way in Boston’s elite lived on the eve of the American Revolution. 7:00pm “Incredibles” Movie Night at the Gassy, DeFilippo Playground
“Incredibles” is the movie of the week and will start at dusk on Prince Street. Pizza at 7pm and movie starts around 8pm. Thanks to Pizzeria Regina – bring your chairs and blankets!

Thursday, August 27

7:00pm Eight to the Bar, NEMPAC Summer Concert Series [Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park]
Join NEMPAC for pre-concert Swing Dance instruction from the Lindy Bomb Squad from 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. and then a phenomenal concert by Eight to the Bar! We hope to close out the summer with this stellar, fun community concert in the Park! More info at NEMPACBoston.org

Friday, August 28

St. Anthony’s Feast at Endicott, Thacher & N. Margin Streets [Friday through Sunday]
With the opening ceremony starting at 7:00pm, get ready for the highly anticipated “feast of all feasts” – the 96th St. Anthony’s Feast will take place all weekend! Take a look at photo coverage from the 2014 St. Anthony’s Feast Grand Procession.

6:00pm “The Apartment” Movie at Rowes Wharf-BHH
A man tries to rise in his company by letting its executives use his apartment for trysts, but complications and a romance of his own ensue. More information on the movie.

Saturday, August 29

1:00pm John Adams: The Colossus of Independence [Paul Revere House 19 North Square, Boston]
Hear from John Adams himself as he discusses his earliest beginnings in Braintree through his days as delegate of the Continental Congress and foreign ambassador. Hear his opinions of his contemporaries and how he longs to be home with his “dearest friend,” Abigail, and their children. Mr. Adams’ singular wit is appealing to children and adults!
