1970’s Photo Archive of North End Processions by MFA’s Late Thomas Lang

Thomas P. Lang, the late head of photography at the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA), took hundreds of photographs of the North End’s religious processions in the years 1973 through 1977. The historic archive is still accessible with over 400 pictures.

  1. Matt. Thank you for the nostalgic photos. The men wore handle bar mustaches and flared pants. Just wondering, does the angel still give a speech in Italian?

    1. Hi Joyce, Yes. the Angel still recites her prayer in Sicilian to the Madonna on the Sunday night of the Fisherman’s Feast. Celebrating 105 years this August.

  2. I love Thomas Lang’s work. I’m very sad to find out that he has passed away. I was exchanging notes with him on Flickr, admiring his work. He’d reply back with positive feedback on my photos. His photos of North End Feasts are just amazing. Look closely… You never know when you’ll see a recognizable face! RIP Thomas P. Lang.
