Boston Community Collaborative’s Dance and Drama students recently performed “The Circus of Rhyme”, an original play written, produced and directed by their wonderful instructor Miss Ingrid Oslund.
The play itself was based on different poems ranging from Edger Allen Poe and e e cummings to original limericks written by the students. Each student had the opportunity to perform one of these poems in a small group and participate in musical numbers to connect them together. The afternoon took us on a tour through this circus, exploring language, physical comedy and musicality in an interactive, immersive way.
The play was performed to a full house at the Improv Asylum. The folks at the Improv were wonderful to work with. It is such a fantastic experience and opportunity for the young performers to perform in a real-deal theatre space.
The students’ performance was the culmination of a 10 week session of Dance, and Drama. Ms Ingrid worked with the children once per week, along with lovely assistants Ms Jessica (Dello Russo), and Ms Mira (Giangregario).
Thank you Karen McLaughlin, Daniella Frattaroli, and Marilyn Frissora, Ms S, Ms Julie, Ms Roseanna, Ms Michelle, Ms Nagle, and ALL the teachers at the afterschool program – for all of your help to us at the SJS. You are always so patient, kind and helpful with collecting the kids from school, prop constructing and painting, sending kids home with the right coats and backpacks, etc etc as we prepare for our performances.
A potluck dinner was enjoyed after the performance in the St John School cafeteria. Thank you to everyone who came and had a lovely time!
Congratulations to each of our performers – and to your families as well. You all are so amazing, enthusiastic, and fun to work with! Thank you!
Boston Community Collaborative’s next production is entitled “Silly Laws and Other Unlikely Events” and is tentatively scheduled for the afternoon of June 7. If you would like details emailed to you once they are finalized, email: becca0923@yahoo.com.
