This “Throwback Thursday” photograph looks south on Commercial Street after the “El” (Atlantic Avenue Elevated) was taken down although the supports are still in place. Taken from around Lincoln Wharf, note the Mariner as the tall building on the right and Union Wharf on the left. We’re not exactly sure of the date of this photo nor the original source. The El was demolished in 1938 so we’re thinking 1940’s from the cars on the street. If you have a better sense of the date or source, please let us know in the comments.

I never heard the building on the right being called the Mariner. We called it Gerard Freezer.
