Sushi Rock LLC received a mixed response from the North End / Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) to open an Asian fusion restaurant at 78-80 Salem Street. The location was most recently occupied by the Pulcinella Mozzarella Bar that closed about a year ago. Since then, a second floor has been added to the property.
Nicholas Leo, represented by Attorney Daniel Toscano, said that the 2-story restaurant that will have dining bars on both levels, including a sushi bar. The establishment will have a total of 82 seats. Leo also operates the Brickyard in Woburn.
Discussion at the meeting surrounded the issue of closing hours, proposed at 11:30 p.m. Sunday-Wednesday and 12:30 a.m. Thursday-Saturday. Abutters asked the new restaurant to abide by NEWRA’s policy of a closing of 11 pm weekdays and 12 am on weekends.
NEWRA members took two votes:
- In a vote of 20-15, NEWRA supported the transfer of the CV 7-day Malt & Wine with Liqueurs license.
- In a vote of 10-26, NEWRA opposed the proposed change in closing hours.
