Neighborhood Poll: What Do You Think of the Redesigned Bartlett Place?

Bartlett Place was one of the first “pocket park” or “parklets” identified by City of Boston Public Works for a redesigned public open space. Long vacant with broken asphalt and a gathering place for trash, a series of community meetings last year resulted in the current redesign with brick-tile surfacing, decorative bollards, potted trees and bicycle racks. Seating was purposely avoided to limit late night noise gatherings and trash issues. See the “before” images and planned renderings. Tell us what you think in this neighborhood poll.

  1. The “Pocket Park” as it is called is certainly an improvement. However, it doesn’t look as nice on trash pick-up days. It would be nice if someone came up with a innovative idea on how to handle the trash issue.

  3. it’s a catch 22…of course no one wants them so close to their property but where is the perfect location? The North End is limited on open space and that is one of those spaces. I guess it’s better then the street poles and park fences where baby carriages / wheelchairs can’t get by, and pedistrians can not walk.

  4. I can personally think of a lot worse things to have outside my front door than these planters, shrubs and cool bike racks. It’s a huuuuge improvement IMO from anything that was there in the past or many of the alternatives that were proposed given the budget available. I agree with Domenic that it’s a shame about the trash pile, though. 🙁
