Major Community Events at the Park on June 21st, 28th & 29th!

The Friends of Christopher Columbus Park (FOCCP) is pleased to continue its tradition of celebrating Independence Week in the Park with a brand new series of fun and family events. These events will be anchored by the Park’s annual Independence Day Celebration, this year to be held on Saturday June 28 from 10:45AM to 3PM. This free celebration will be kicked off by the family favorite “Kids Parade”, led by Uncle Sam on stilts. Other entertainment throughout the day will include visits by T-Bone, Mr. Balloon Wizard, Station 8’s Fire Truck, the Tanglewood Marionettes, and Magician Peter O’Malley. A Musical Petting Zoo, a performance by the North End Music and Performing Arts Center, and a host of family-friendly games on our West Lawn like bean-bag toss, tic-tac-toe toss, and hula hoops complete the day’s activities.
Said Kathleen Tedesco, co-chair of the June 28 Independence Day event: “The Friends of Christopher Columbus Park group organizes and funds many free events in the Park like our Independence Day celebration. To encourage year-round Park activity, we also fund and sponsor the Winter Trellis lighting, the Columbus Day celebration, Sunday Free Movie nights, and our Tot Lot Celebration. We are proud and thankful to have the support of responsible and generous corporate sponsors for this event: Al Dente Restaurant, Boston Pushcart, Benevento’s Restaurant, the Chiofaro Company, CL Waterfront Properties LLC, Marriott Long Wharf, and Sunstone Hotel Investors. We also thank our membership whose yearly contributions also help fund this and other events.”
We hope everyone is also able to come to the two other special Independence Week events at the Park:
- On Saturday, June 21, the FOCCP and the North End/Waterfront Health & Beauty Alliance (NEWHBA) host the Park’s second annual Health & Beauty Expo which will run from 8AM to 8PM. The Expo will feature free exercise classes, health & beauty tables, and live music starting at 3PM. View Event Notice.
- On Sunday, June 29th, 2014 at 8:00 pm – the FOCCP and the North End Music & Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC) present a fully staged opera production of Die Fledermaus by Strauss (in English) from at 8PM. Conductor Tiffany Chang and Director Adrienne Boris will present this special outdoor performance at the Park. View Event Notice.
The Friends of Christopher Columbus Park (FOCCP) is an all-volunteer non-profit organization comprised of North End and Waterfront residents and businesses whose purpose is to further the restoration, protection, preservation, care, enhancement, improvement, and maintenance of the Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park.
