North End Hidden Places: Baker’s Alley

Imagine being the first bakery located in the North End of Boston? Baker’s Alley is where it all started, before Modern, Mike’s, Parziale’s, Bova’s, and Maria’s. The first bakers in Boston’s North End set up shop here, located across from Quincy Court, off of North Street, just to the right of where Limoncello Restaurant is today. The alley now leads back to a private residence.

Things have certainly changed since the original bakery. The alley is now home to a private residence. Photo by Conor Finley

  1. I was born and raised right next door~~at 190 North Street~~~very interesting that it once really was a bakery !!
We played in that area~~~it wasn’t much to look at then, but not being allowed to cross streets~~~it was all we had.
We would roller skate down from Paul Revere’s House to that yard ! Where Lemoncello’s is now, there was
Uncle Dave’s Grocery store. He was a character !!! Now it is a cute little Court Yard~~~Like a North Pole Sanctuary during Snow Storms in the Winter Months !
The more things change~~~~The more they remain the same !
