The North End Music & Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC) Children’s Music Theatre Troupe is planning their Spring Production of Willy Wonka, a stage adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which features the songs from the classic family film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory!
This Community Theatre program teaches young performers the fundamentals of Musical Theatre through a combination of singing, acting, and dance. The Troupe meets for weekly rehearsals throughout the year and has two annual productions and one summer production.
Our Winter Program begins Friday, January 17th, 2014 and will feature a showcase performance on March 7th, including casted, choreographed scenes from Grease!, The Little Mermaid, and more to be announced. This performance will also feature our new prep program, KIDS! Music Theatre, for ages 4 – 6.
NEMPAC Director Sherri Snow comments, “Our community theatre program will serve over forty children in our community this spring. We are very excited to influence the lives of so many children in our neighborhood through our creative arts programming!”
Last December, the Theatre Troupe featured a wonderful musical adaptation of “A Christmas Carol“. The musical was performed on December 13th and 15th by twenty-two youth actors, between the ages of 7 – 13, from the North End and surrounding neighborhoods. The show was quite the hit, and all of the performers did wonderfully! The venue of the Boston Harbor Community Church provided an intimate, family-friendly stage, with a creative set design. Elizabeth Carey carried the troupe through the show as “Scrooge” and was visited by three, clever spirits; Sarah Connolly as Ghost of the Past, Samantha Everett as Ghost of the Present, and Annie Bugbee as Ghost of the Future. A complete list of our cast can be found below.
Alia Roberts, NEMPAC’s choreographer and stage director for this production, wrote the script for this special musical adaptation. Music Director, Alex Dietrich, chose fitting holiday songs and carols to insert into the script to create the musical. The Troupe ended the production with a group dance number “Winter Wonderland”!
