The North End Columbus Day Celebration Committee hosted an evening of celebration and commemoration on Friday, October 11, 2013 at the Fairmont Battery Wharf. The reception featured music, prizes, refreshments and cocktails. This year’s honored guest was Mayor Thomas M. Menino, Mayor Menino is the 2013 recipient of the Committee’s 2013 Michael A. Nazzaro Community Service Award. Mike Nazzaro was born and raised in the North End, was a small business owner and served as our State Representative. During his tenure Mike successfully fought to protect the neighborhood from special interests seeking to raze the neighborhood in the name of redevelopment. The Committee is recognizing Mayor Menino for that same commitment and dedication to our community and our great city. “It is a fitting tribute to Mayor Menino,” said Committee Chairman Louis Strazzullo, “As did our friend Mike Nazzaro, the Mayor loves our city and has been a true friend of the North End. We are happy to honor him with Mike’s Award and to say thank you for his years of service!” (Photos by Matt Conti. High resolution gallery and prints.)
