Create an Amazing Race Team for the Next SMILE Mass Event in October 2013

“The Crazy Mothers” – 2012 SMILE Mass Amazing Race Winners

Remember reading about and/or witnessing all the fun had last year by the participants at the SMILE Mass Amazing Race? SMILE Mass had such a great time in your neighborhood last year that we are returning again on October 5, 2013!

Somewhat like the hit television show, the SMILE Mass Amazing Race is a fun and unique fundraiser for SMILE Mass. Our Race combines knowledge of local sites, physical challenges and team spirit. Teams will be given a creative list of activities to perform as they visit popular destinations in Boston. Prepare to be challenged as you help us raise funds for SMILE Mass.

We would love to have you join us by forming a team and participating! Don’t let those out-of-towners have all the fun. You know your own neighborhood better than anyone – We are sure you can win!

Race Entry Fee: The fee to enter the SMILE Mass Amazing Race is $250 per person. Your team can consist of anywhere from 2 to 8 participants. Create your team and register through the Crowdrise site (http://www.crowdrise.com/SMILEMassAmazingRace2013) and keep building your funds. Also, don’t forget employer matching gift programs. You may already be halfway there!

The tasks are still being planned but the location will be an expanded version of last year’s North End/Faneuil Hall area and will begin and end again at the Coast Guard All Hands Club at 427 Commercial Street in Boston. Free parking is available for all race participants but we suggest carpooling…and a new concept this year (the SMILE Mass Amazing Race VIP Team) will allow one team to “carpool” in luxury in your own limousine which the VIP team can continue to use throughout the race to get between sites. For more info on becoming the VIP team visit www.smilemass.org/vip-info.html

We are also in need of volunteers for both planning the race and for the day of the race. For volunteer opportunities, visitwww.smilemass.org/volunteer.html

For those unfamiliar with SMILE Mass and our mission: Small Miracles in Life Exist (SMILE Mass) is a 501 C3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing happy, healthy memories to families living with children or adults with disabilities. Our mission is to create a day trip or a vacation opportunity without barriers, with our first project on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. SMILE Mass will invest money, knowledge, and expertise in a hotel or resort to create facilities that meet Universal Design Standards. SMILE Mass will strive to become widely known as the leading resource for handicap accessibility in vacation opportunities. Furthermore, SMILE Mass will work with surrounding recreational facilities to provide accessible equipment.

We are proud to announce that in June 2012, we delivered the first shipment of twenty beach wheelchairs, capable of being used on the sand as well as in the ocean, lake or pond waters, to 20 beaches in 12 local Cape Cod towns, from Bourne to Provincetown. These beach wheelchairs will allow families with children of disabilities (as well as disabled adults) to have a day at the beach, previously an almost impossible task. On June 28, 2013 we will deliver another 20, bringing the total to 40!

SMILE Mass continues to work closely with local Park & Recreation Directors, Beach Directors and Commissions on Disability to identify which beaches in their respective communities could benefit the most. Our goal is to help towns become more accessible which, in turn, will provide a boost to the local economy by increasing tourism at local retail establishments and revenues to the towns from parking and beach fees. Help us to make a day at the beach available and accessible to all!
