Obituary: Jason Merrill “Jay” Cortell of the North End

CORTELL, Jason Merrill “Jay” Of Boston, formerly of Lexington, Jay (b. February 18, 1936 – d. February 3, 2013) passed away listening to the classical music he so loved, with his beloved wife Mary-Brenda at his bedside. His unconditional love, support and guidance will be sorely missed by his children Perry, Karen and Eric, and Eric’s wife Julia Wong. He also survived by his brother Neal Cortell and his wife Marilyn, and by his sister-in-law Cynthia Astrachan. Jay was the adored Zaydie of Arlo, Claudia and Vera Cortell. He also leaves nieces, nephews as well grandnieces and grandnephews.

The family would like to acknowledge the genuine care we have received from our friends, neighbors, caregivers, staff at Union Wharf, and the Hospice of the North Shore. Their dedication and concern for Jay’s well being have made his long journey of illness easier to bear.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 4th at 11 am, at Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard St, Brookline, MA. Following the service, the burial will take place at Sharon Memorial Park, 41 Dedham St., Sharon. Visiting will follow at his late residence until 8PM in the evening.
