North End Crime Incidents Down 15% This Year

Although resident complaints about noise and quality of life issues continue to be high, the number of reported crime incidents tracked by Boston Police are down 15% year-to-date in 2012 versus last year. At the latest North End Public Safety meeting, BPD District A-1 distributed crime incident statistics for the neighborhood. In total or per capita, crime statistics show the North End remains one of the safest neighborhoods in the city.

For the first nine months through September, there been no homicides or rapes this year compared to one attempted rape incident in 2011. Robberies have ticked up to 10 vs. 6, assaults are down to 11 vs. 13, burglaries are down to 26 vs. 42, larcenies are down to 98 vs. 114 and auto thefts are up 2 to 15 this year. Monthly details are shown in the grid below.

  1. The No. End basically always had a low crime rate,
    this is not anything new.
Fri. and Sat. Nites the No. End this weekend was out of
    control.
Sat. morning in & around 1 A.M. 4 kids were throwing
orange construction cones at cars, and it was so out of
hand, residents were yelling out their windows to stop.

Sat. Morning 157 Salem St. ran a roof deck party that
went on unto 2 30 a.m. or later. Loud Music

People are talking extremely loud coming for the Bova
Bakery area, where there is suppose to be a Boston
Police Detail, which from what I gather is not doing any-
thing to control the noise situation. Quality of Life is a
Major Issue in the No. End and when the fines are
given out, we should all see a difference.

I spoke to a Police Officer from N.Y.C. and he was devastated when I told him what was going on in this
neighborhood. Our streets are filthy, dog poop is everywhere, trash is put on our streets 7 days a week,
and both males & females are urinating whenever &
wherever they feel like. Are these people drinking,
you can bet your life on it, so we give out more liquor
licenses to increase the problems. There definitely
    something wrong with this picture.

Filenes Basement Space has been empty too long, let
Suffolk & Emerson borrow the money from the City of
Boston and let them build a skyscraper to house these
students. Every problem has a solution and if anyone
else tells you different, they are lying
    .

    1. maybe you should get out a little more. millenium partners is moving forward with the filene’s site…

      1. I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT MILLENIUM PARTNERS
        TAKING OVER FILENE’S SITE.

FOR THE RECORD, SUFFOLK & EMERSON
SHOULD HAVE BORROWED THE MONEY FROM
THE CITY OF BOSTON & PROVIDED FOR ALL
THEIR STUDENTS, THEY WOULD HAVE MADE
QUITE A FEW NEIGHBORHOODS VERY HAPPY.
