At about 3pm on Tuesday, July 3rd, an underground fire caused manhole covers to blow off near the corner of Richmond and North Streets, according to Boston Police. One witness reports that a manhole cover went 8 feet into the air. Emergency personnel have the area cordoned off. A couple of scene updates below:

Fortunately, no one was in the right place, at the wrong time. A lead manhole cover hitting your head would not make for a good day.
