On Saturday, June 30, 2012, the Friends of Christopher Columbus Park (FOCCP) will host a day of family-friendly events that begins with a parade through the park at 10 a.m. and ends with a concert performed by the United States Navy Band Northeast at 1:30 p.m.
“Our Tall Ships / 4th of July Celebration promises to be a wonderful day for families in the neighborhood and for tourists who visit Christopher Columbus Park from around the world,” says FOCCP President Joanne Hayes-Rines. The event will be part of the weeklong celebration in Boston commemorating the bicentennial of the War of 1812. “We’re encouraging children to decorate their bikes, wagons and scooters in red, white and blue and march with us through the park. We are thrilled that the Navy Band will cap off the day as part of its tour to celebrate the War of 1812 bicentennial.”
Entertainment, including a magician, juggler, storyteller, and face painting, will begin after the parade. The event is free to all thanks to the generous support of Al Dente Restaurant, Benevento’s Restaurant, Boston Pushcarts and Century Bank. The North End Music and Performing Arts Center will participate with musicians, singers, face painters and its unique musical petting zoo.
The Friends of Christopher Columbus Park (www.foccp.org) is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization comprised of North End and Waterfront neighbors and businesses who work together to maintain and enhance the park and to sponsor special events in the park.
