North End Resident to Run Boston Marathon for the Blind

North Ender, Lisa Wolk, Running for Team With A Vision

North End resident Lisa Wolk will run her fifth marathon on Monday, to help the blind.

Wolk is a member of Team With A Vision, which is competing in the marathon for its 19th year to raise awareness and funds for the Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (MAB). In her second marathon of 2012, Wolk will not only running 26.2 miles, but also fundraising for the cause.

Team With A Vision joins both sighted and blind athletes who run the marathon, demonstrating the capabilities of people with vision loss. For years TWAV team members have consistently placed in the top positions of the Boston Marathon’s Visually Impaired Division.

“These visually impaired athletes show that losing your sight doesn’t have to keep you from leading full and meaningful lives,” MAB CEO Barbara Salisbury says.

So far the 15-member Team With A Vision has raised nearly $40,000 this year to support the Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
